La matière de Mémoire #6

2014 / digital / color / 26min.

Continuing the Dé-sign series of poetic documentaries we have been making since the first year of the Heisei era [1989], from the 21st year of this era [2009] we have also been making La matière de Mémoire, a series about the people who experienced World War II. This year we made the sixth part. In this work we listened to the story of Mr. Orihara, a former second lieutenant in the navy. We met him because he is the father of a friend of our younger brother. Mr. Orihara’s role involved providing mission support using an oscilloscope at a combat information center from the southern front. Repeated movement orders, being on duty with no sleep or rest, the atomic bombs falling on Hiroshima and Nagasaki…After 69 years, he talks about his wartime memories for the first time. (V.B.)
