Thank you for attending “Image Forum Festival 2014.”
This festival began in 1987 with the aim of enriching the culture of moving images in Japan by screening works with a high degree of creativity clearly distinguishable from commercial films.
In this 28th year of the festival, with a focus on our special program “Utopia – Igniting dreams,” and without being limited by particular genres such as experimental movies, documentaries, or dramas, we once again go looking for a world that can only be achieved through the unique qualities of moving images. As illustrated by the wave of digitalization in recent years, the environment surrounding this field is changing rapidly, and it has become possible for anyone to obtain beautiful moving images. This transformation has created fertile soil for a greater number of stimulating works, and this seems certain to positively affect “places of appreciation” such as this festival.
In closing, I would like to acknowledge the enormous assistance we have received in the staging of this festival. I would like to extend my deep gratitude to everyone who gave us their collaboration, cooperation, sponsorship and support, all of the artists whose works are featured, the members of the jury, those involved in distribution, and everyone who offered us their valuable advice.
