When her mother tells her that her uncle is enshrined at Yasukuni after seeing a news item on the controversy surrounding the Prime Minister visiting this shrine, the filmmaker, who lives in Okinawa, is seized with a desire to meet him. Their back-and-forth correspondence begins with her calling out, “You are my great-uncle”. The traces of his life become his reply and vividly emerge into the filmmaker’s “now”.
Born in Okinawa Prefecture in 1992. Created various installations and moving image works revolving around documentary expression such as GRAY ZONE (12), DEAR FLYING SHISA (13), and 2/2 (14) after entering Seian University of Art and Design. Currently studies at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS).
