WAVY

WAVY

2014 / digtal / color / 10min.

The title “WAVY” was in fact chosen with a very Japanese sense in mind. Rows of houses, rows of streets, rows of mountains … waves of people [the Japanese words for “rows” and “waves” are pronounced the same but written with different characters]. “Rows” jump to “waves”. In each of the landscapes used, each “row/wave” is assigned through its meaning and its depth. The reason an English title was used is that this word “WAVY” was needed to suggest the signs of the spread of modernization and universalization that have become etched on the underside of the familiar Japanese landscape.
