The filmmakers have been creating works in the “LA MATIÈRE DE MÉMOIRE” series, films about the experiences of people during WWII, since 2009. This is the eighth work in this series. From 1944 until the end of the war, Tokyo endured many air raids. In order to issue air raid warnings, a secret corps called the “Women’s Communication Corps” was set up within the Eastern Military Commander Operations Room. In this installment we hear the stories of former Women’s Communication Corps members SOTOMA Kazuko, YAMAGUCHI Takeo, and YAGI Nobutada who experienced the Yamanote air raid in Omotesando when he was ten years old. These survivors give vivid accounts of their “wartime experiences” from the differing perspectives of women charged with providing information on incoming B-29 bombers and a young boy who directly experienced the devastation these planes brought. Visual Brains(KAZAMA Sei + OTSU Hatsune)

KAZAMA Sei and OTSU Hatsune formed Visual Brains and began to be active as visual artists when they were both working at a television production company called Teleforce. While creating multimedia art they also worked as directors on many projects in a variety of genres. Currently, she teaches at Tokyo Polytechnic University (OTSU). Recent written works include Gendai Eizou Geijyutsuron (KAZAMA, Shuppan Bunka Kenkyukai, 07).
