The ideas of ‘seeing’ and ‘image’ are not only based on visual experiences but also on all other interior and exterior sensory input. After spending a number of hours in a blackened room, a man was able to memorize in detail the position of objects, the distances between them and their shapes. He was even able to hit a ball back with a tennis racket after a few minutes of practicing. Although he was visually blind, he was still able to see. (A.S.)
