SATAKE Maki / 2003 / digital / color / 3min.
The setting is an empty tatami-mat room of the kind found at Japanese inns. The room appears as a video image in realtime, but the image in interrupted by strobe-like flashes reveal photographs in the same position of an earlier time. The photographs tell the story of a group of women who have gathered to celebrate something. This piece fuses animated photographs and a visual track and brings to vivid life the “memories” that a space can harbor. (From the 2003 IFF catalogue)
