The starting point of the “BUDDY MATSUMAE” films, a series of works spanning close to thirty years created by OKI Hiroyuki, a filmmaker who won an award for SWIMMING PROHIBITED at the 1990 Image Forum Festival and has been praised as a “descendant of Rimbaud.” In this ambitious major work he attempted to film his university architecture department graduation design and create an intersection of architecture and moving images. “Buddy Matsumae’s journal envisions architecture of this land where gravity operates/time in the design of human lives/history/consciousness/memory/the spiritual dimension from the perspective of the fictional character ‘Buddy Matsumae.’ The following year, this project gained the medium of moving images and became a .” (O.H.)
