Comedian Chin Naitoh was performing in Koma comedies at the Shinjuku Koma Theater. I used to deliver milk to the Koma theater pit vendors, and Shinkoku-geki era Ken Ogata became fond of me. These two met at the Koma theater just before closing… A chronicle of Chin Naitoh, with whom I developed a friendship while crossing the same era. (K.N.)
Born in Tokyo in 1941. Began making 8mm films in the early 1960s, and in 1968 took charge of running the first distribution company in Japan for films based on the individual. In 1970 he created the organization that would later be connected to Image Forum, and began holding regular screenings of experimental films. He has now made over 100 long and short works, and has consistantly questioned the meaning of dealing with moving images as an individual.
