What is a movie? What are moving pictures? This work is a camera projection system that shoots and plays back “moving pictures” rather than a sequence of still images. Fiber-optic cables are laid out in a lattice on the image sensor of a normal movie camera and expose the changes in brightness in each pixel on 4×5 film as several hundred lines of light.
Along with reconfirming the fundamental concept of movies/moving pictures that have become overly generalized, it is also an attempt to elicit the fundamental digital character possessed by moving-image media. (G.K.)
As a freelance filmmaker, Goshima produces videos and multi- media contents. Won the Grand Prize of the 2001 Image Forum Festival with the monochromatic CG animation “Fade into White #2” (00). Other works include “z reactor” (04), and “Different Cities” (06).
