The Mari are a people living along the Volga river who have maintained their own language and culture for the past 500 years. 『SILENT SOULS』(2011) is a work of folklore full of humor and wit told through 22 Mari women, all of whose names begin with “O”, who live joyfully with a worship of nature and unbridled sexuality. This is the first screening of this work by Alexey Fedorchenko, winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the Venice International Film Festival.
