Study for the Cat and the Mouse

Study for the Cat and the Mouse

2014 / Video Installation (CCD-camera, video projector, motor, mixed media) / various size

The newest work in the Realistic Virtuality series in which models are shot with a CCD camera and juxtaposed with their enlarged images. For the Japan that dreamed of a “wealthy society” after the war, movies served as a textbook from which to learn about the America that was its role model. Taking the MGM cartoon “Tom and Jerry”, which middle-aged Japanese saw over and over again on TV when they were children, as a motif, we want to visually critique this viewpoint (delusion) and the “present” that this dream has actually realized through the manipulation of camera and setting perspective techniques.
