As if to reexamine the nature of their everyday existence, a completely nude woman grapples with various objects placed in a residential space such as a door, a table, and a bicycle. A physical performance moving-image work in which the origin of the thought that runs through the physical architecture developed since the 1990s is condensed.
Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1936. Went to America in 1961, and the following year began his activities with his partner in both private and public life Madeline Gins based in New York. Held solo exhibition all over the world, including in Germany, France, Britain, and Japan, in the 1960s, and in 1970 exhibited one of his most emblematic works, The Mechanism of Meaning, at the Venice Biennale as a representative of Japan.
In recent years he has turned his efforts towards works of architecture focused on the body, including The Site of Reversible Destiny – Yoro (95) (Yoro. Gifu Prefecture, 1995) and The Reversible Destiny Lofts MITAKA – In Memory of Helen Keller (Mitaka, Tokyo, 2000). His activities with Madeline Gins have not been restricted to the fields of architecture and art; they have also been deeply involved with scientists and scholars in various disciplines including the life sciences, physics, philosophy and medicine.
