BUTTER LAMP HU Wei
Chinese experimental film includes many “video art” works shown in places like art galleries. The three films selected for this program break from this mould in being highly narrative. Interestingly, a sensibility similar to that of Japanese independent films can be seen in works like 『THERE IS NO MEMORIES LEFT, I RECORD EVERYTHING』, a surreal conversation drama that proceeds with the odd rhythm of two young people. 『BUTTER LAMP』, a short film that has received acclaim at international film festivals such as the Cannes International Film Festival Critic’s Week, depicts the situation in Tibet with a witty setting. Curator: Zhang Yaxuan (Chinese Independent Film Archive).
