CHOCOLATE CAKE AND HORYUJI TEMPLE

CHOCOLATE CAKE AND HORYUJI TEMPLE

MUKAI Keita / 2015 / digital / color / 59min.
camera, editor & sound recording: MUKAI Keita / cast: Seiya, Yosuke, Tomomi

A courageous, taboo-transcending self-documentary by someone who came from a children’s care facility. While examining the filmmaker’s personal issues, it incisively examines one of the fundamental questions of the formation of a person: are biological parents necessary for a child’s upbringing? The camera focuses a consistently warm gaze on his friends, nature, and his late mother’s hometown, but the words of his real father in response to this gaze, “So why were ‘you’ born?,” pierces our heart.
