DATUM POINT

DATUM POINT

ORIKASA Ryo / 2016 / digital / color / 7min.
poem: ISHIHARA Yoshiro / music: OWADA Shun

The title calls to mind discrepancies in Japanese “datum points” caused by the Kanto and Eastern Japan earthquake disasters, but this work’s motif is Ishihara Yoshiro’s poem “Datum Point.” With the filmmaker’s own fingertips (?) he plows and prods the entirety of a vast land of clay. From shapeless images like waves that come and go, one by one the poet’s words are unspooled and vanish. A peaceful and powerful animated work.
